The Revelations, the Lord has given to me by the Spirit, along with my teachings and comments are written in Blue. May we all have ears to hear.

The goal in this teaching is to bring about clarity and understanding in regard to Matthew 5:32. This is a Scripture that causes so much confusion. I have to give you a clear background before the explanation, so let’s proceed …

Matthew 19:3-9 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. (Note: If God puts a marriage together, no man can put it asunder!) They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? He saith unto them, Moses (Circa 1400 BCE) because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning (of the creation; of humankind; and of the forming of the lineage of Christ Jesus, beginning with Adam and Eve in particular, Circa 4,004 BCE) it was not so. And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

Here is God’s Word as written by Moses: Concerning Divorce …

Deuteronomy 24:1-4 When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send (sending away: Strong’s H7971) her out of his house. And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's wife. And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and giveth it in her hand, and sendeth (sending away: Strong’s H7971) her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her to be his wife; Her former husband, which SENT HER AWAY(sending away: Strong’s H7971), may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before the LORD: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

The Lord states in Malachi 3:6  For I am the LORD, I change not;... and note the meaning of ‘putting away’ in the Strong’s

Malachi 2:16 For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth PUTTING AWAY (sending away: Strong’s H7971):

First … let’s clear up a lesson on LustMat 5:27-30 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell(Christ Jesus gave this command under the Law during His life on earth in an earthly vessel. Of course, after Jesus completed His work on the cross at Calvary, then died, was buried, arose again, went to the Father and sent the Holy Spirit into innermost being of the believing church made without hands … we now have been granted grace and forgiveness for repentence and the asking. So now, if we fail and fall into adultery by what we do, or with a lustful eye, we have an advocate, Christ Jesus, with the Father, and we DO NOT have to cut off our right hands, or pluck our eyes out and throw them away. Because of what Christ Jesus did on the cross, we can now repent, ask for forgiveness, and then continue to strive on toward growth in righteousness, peace and joy, thereby moving forward in our lives. All Glory and Thanks be to Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, by Christ Jesus)

Now here’s Jesus again Teaching About Divorce

Mar 10:2-12  the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him. And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away. And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunderAnd in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter. And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

Here’s Jesus again in Luke teaching about Divorce and Remarriage

Luke 16:18 Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.

Matthew 5:31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall PUT (free fully, release (send): Strong’s G630) AWAY  his wife, LET HIM GIVE HER A WRITING OF DIVORCEMENT

Mat 5:32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put (free fully, release (send): Strong’s G630) away his wife, saving (except: Strong’s G3924) for the cause of fornication (harlotry, incest, idolatry: Strong’s G4202), causeth her to commit adultery (to corrupt, debase, make impure: Webster): and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced (freed fully, released (sent away):  Strongs: G630) committeth adultery. (OK … this last phrase in Matthew 5:32 is where a lot of people, who study God’s Word, get confused. It’s because of this particular wording. Please notice … that the word divorced’ in this phrase, and in the Strong’s Greek is (G630 meaning “to free fully, release, or send away) … AND … is also the EXACT SAME WORD AND MEANING in the Strong’s defining put awayhis wife, in Matthew 5:31 as well as in this same verse Matthew 5:32. Plus, even in Deuteronomy 24:1,3,4 and in Malachi 2:16 the words, in the Hebrew Strong’s, for SEND, SENDETH, SENT, or PUTTING AWAY (sending away: Strong’s H7971) even in the Hebrew, THE MEANINGS ARE EXACTLY THE SAME.

OK … What am I trying to say here, in regard to this particular verse. The word divorced in this verse, causes some people to think, that if they are divorced, their only option is to live in adultery. This is not the case. What Jesus is saying here is … that if there is just a ‘putting away’ of a wife, or should I say a separation without a ‘writing of divorcement’ then she, and the next man involved in a relationship with her, are both committing ‘adultery.’ But … if she is ‘put away’ or separated from her husband, AND he grants to her, a ‘writing of divorcement,’ then she is free to become another man’s wife. I pray this clears up the confusion around this Scripture. It’s all because of how the translators interpreted and defined the wording. That’s all. Let’s keep it simple. Hopefully, this explanation will set some people free from living in a false guilt. Jesus came to set us free. And when the Word is seen in the correct perspective, it does just that! The Truth will set you free!

One more thing I’ll mention just to be clear. Under this present dispensation of Grace, adultery is forgivable! Jesus said it this way in Matthew 12:31-32 Wherefore I say unto you, ALL MANNER OF SIN and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world (age: Strong’s G165), neither in the world (age: Strong’s G165) to come.

Our love to you all … May our Lord Jesus continue to bless each and every one of you always, to the Glory of the Father!

In His service … J Stone Grant
